Stacy Wiegman answered:Itchy skin can be caused by a number of conditions, ranging from harmless to serious. Less worrisome causes include: ordinary bug bites, uncomfortable clothing, dry skin or a minor allergic reaction. More serious skin conditions, including psoriasis or dermatitis, can also cause skin to itch. In addition, itchy skin is sometimes a symptom of serious internal conditions like liver disease or kidney failure. Talk to your doctor if you are unclear about the source of an itchy skin problem.
