    Smooth surface cavities are slow-growing areas of decay on the smooth flat surfaces of your teeth. With this type of cavity, as bacteria start to dissolve the calcium in the enamel you might notice small white spots. Once a tooth's enamel starts to dissolve, the interior of the tooth is also at risk for decay.
