    Stacy Wiegman answered:
Most side effects of potassium supplements are mild and do not require medical attention. Serious side effects are uncommon, but require immediate medical attention if they do occur. These include: abdominal pain or cramping; anxiety; breathing problems; chest or throat pain while swallowing; confusion; irregular heartbeat; itchy rash or hives; swelling of the throat and face; numbness in the hands, feet or lips; red- or black-colored bowel movements; and unusual tiredness, especially heaviness or weakness in the legs. The following side effects are more common and less serious; talk to your doctor if they persist or become bothersome: diarrhea, mild stomach discomfort, nausea, vomiting.
