Stacy Wiegman answered:Common and not serious side effects of metoprolol-hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) include: lightheadedness or dizziness, diarrhea or constipation, sore throat, upset stomach, aching in your body, ringing in your ears or blurry vision. More serious side effects include: chest pain or irregular heartbeat, fainting or shortness of breath, swelling or weight gain, numbness in your hands or feet, confusion or hallucinations, headaches, seizures, excessive bruising or bleeding, limpness or pain in your legs, severe fever or sore throat, red and blistered or peeling skin, dry mouth or extreme thirst, nausea or vomiting, trouble urinating or urinating more or less than usual, inability to urinate, discolored urine or stool, loss of appetite or upper stomach pain and jaundice. Symptoms of allergic reactions, such as difficulty breathing, hives, rash, itching or swelling in your face and neck, require immediate emergency medical attention.
