In rare cases, albuterol extended-release tablets may cause a severe allergic reaction that leads to difficulty breathing, swelling in the face or throat and hives. If these symptoms develop, get medical attention right away. Taking the drug may also lead to a condition called paradoxical bronchospasm, which is the exacerbation of breathing problems. Other serious side effects may include changes in blood pressure, breathing difficulties, irregular heartbeat, heart palpitations and swelling or irritation of the throat. Albuterol extended-release tablets may also cause tremors, headaches, nervousness, nausea, vomiting, weakness, dizziness, problems sleeping, dry mouth and cough. Other side effects are possible, so talk to your doctor if any new or unusual symptoms develop while taking the drug.
