Should women have a mammogram before beginning IVF?

Dr. Mehmet Oz answered:The American Cancer Society (ACS) recommends that women age 40 and older with an average risk for breast cancer have a mammogram every year. The ACS recommends that women at high risk for breast cancer should have a mammogram every year beginning at age 30. Women at high risk include those who have a family history of the disease, a known BRCA gene mutation or a first-degree relative with a BRCA gene mutation.
Doctors generally don’t suggest that women under 40 who are at average risk for breast cancer have mammograms before they begin IVF. That’s why I recommend that all women do a monthly breast self-exam.
