    Individuals who are allergic to Ranunculaceae (crowfoot or buttercup) plants or black cohosh should not use this herb. Use black cohosh with caution if you have an allergy to aspirin or other salicylates. The black cohosh plant contains a small amount of salicylic acid but it is not known if the herbal preparation contains any.

    Researchers do not know if using black cohosh is safe for women with health conditions that are hormone-sensitive such as breast cancer, endometriosis or cancer of the uterus. Individuals with liver problems should not use this herb. Women who are pregnant should avoid use of black cohosh unless directed by their healthcare professional. Children should not use this herb.

    Side effects: Black cohosh may cause gastrointestinal discomfort or upset stomach. It may also cause miscarriage.
