Should I have a glucose tolerance test?
-
Dr. Dean Ornish answered:Not necessarily. If you eat a diet of predominantly foods with a low glycemic index, it doesn’t matter very much if you tend to secrete insulin quickly or slowly, as these foods won’t provoke a rapid insulin response even if you’re genetically predisposed to secrete insulin quickly. One reason for having the test is that it may motivate you to eat fewer high-glycemic-index foods if you find that you’re a rapid insulin secretor.
