    Dr. Michael Roizen answered:
The one-time vaccine for meningococcal disease or meningitis is recommended for adults not previously immunized with the meningococcal conjugate vaccine and who have asplenia or terminal complement deficiencies, as well as for military recruits, certain laboratory workers, first-year college students living in dormitories, and people who will be traveling to or living in countries in which meningococcal disease is common. The vaccine is also recommended for all adolescents 11 to 18 years old.
