Don't feel pressured into forgoing a second opinion if your doctor says your problem requires speedy treatment. Except in the most dire cases, which are quite rare (say, when a heart attack could happen at any second), you'll almost always have at least a few days to get a second opinion.

When you call a physician in hopes of getting that second opinion, just make sure you tell the nurse or receptionist that you're seeking a second opinion and thus need to get in to be seen quickly. Make sure you do research your condition on your own so you're as knowledgeable as possible. The peace of mind is almost always worth the time investment.
