Drinking too much can lower blood glucose too much, and too much alcohol can cause confusion and disorientation which could be confused with hypoglycemia.  If your husband is experiencing hypoglycemia and not treated for it because it is mistaken as too much alcohol, it could be fatal.

Alcohol lowers blood glucose levels. Normally, when your blood glucose levels begin to drop too low, your liver will convert stored starch to glucose. This helps protect you from a severe reaction temporarily and gives you time to recognize and treat hypoglycemia. But alcohol interferes with this process. If you drink alcohol, you may have a severe hypoglycemic reaction with little warning.

Science has shown that red wine is an effective potion to help increase good cholesterol. But too much of a good thing is a bad thing. If you have diabetes, drinking large amounts of liquor is bad for your liver, can interfere with your blood sugar control, and can addle your brain. And as for ale -- beer and the like have a lot of calories. Nothing wrong with drinking a beer, but not too many beers too often.
