Rituxan treats rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by attacking and killing specific blood cells that are causing your immune system to attack your joints. It does not actually treat the rheumatoid arthritis itself. Rather, it treats the symptoms of this condition. Rituxan can also be combined with another drug, methotrexate, to treat symptoms related to RA. However, it is only given to people with RA if they have not experienced relief from a tumor necrosis factor inhibitor medication.
