What are the risks of having a caesarean section (C-section)?
-
Dr. Michael Roizen answered:C-sections come with their share of risks for Mom, like infection, difficulty breastfeeding, and future risk of small bowel obstructions (the scars inside you rarely can interfere with the movement of the intestines). Also, the child's breathing can be compromised briefly after a C-Section because vaginal deliveries tend to squeeze fluid out of the baby's lungs. But those risks also come with benefits, the most important of which is a decreased risk of fetal death or disability - because the medical team can get a distressed baby out and give him the medical attention he needs.
