A cystourethrogram is a safe procedure, but you may react to the iodine-based dye with vomiting, hot flashes or nausea. A simple antihistamine should relieve those reactions. Very rarely have people experienced breathing difficulties, low blood pressure, swelling of the mouth or throat, or even cardiac arrest.
