    Johns Hopkins Medicine answered:

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is known to impact the body in a number of ways beyond the traditional joint inflammation and erosion. Some of the more common problems associated with RA include inflammation of blood vessels (also known as vasculitis), lung problems, heart problems, inflammation of the eyes, and low white blood cell counts.

Regular checkups with your doctor will help ward off some of the additional internal problems RA causes. Early and aggressive use of disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (DMARD) treatments will reduce these problems.
