Power exercises are very intense exercises performed at high speeds. In order to perform power exercises at maximum speeds requires your body to use a specific energy source. The primary energy source used in power training is ATP-CP (adenosine triphosphate- creatine phosphate). You need to relax 3-5 minutes to let this energy source fully replenish. Once this energy source is depleted, it takes approximately three minutes for the system to replenish 100%. If you do not rest for the recommended amount of time, the energy source will not be restored and your body will then use an alternative energy system. Once you have altered the energy system used, your body is then training for a different result. If this occurs, you will not be able to move as explosively during the exercises. Therefore taking adequate rest intervals is a crucial component to obtaining desired results.
