Medicare does not send representatives to sell supplemental policies. Supplemental insurance policies such as Medigap are sold by private companies approved by Medicare. You should not be contacted by a representative claiming to be from Medicare offering supplemental policies. If you are, do NOT give out your Medicare card information or any other personal information.

To buy a Medicare supplemental policy, contact an approved private company or call your State Health Insurance Assistance Program or Medicare at 1-800-633-4227 for a plan finder. If you have been contacted by someone trying to sell you supplemental policies, call 1-800-447-8477 to report the scam or fraud.

Medicare never sends representatives to go door-to-door. Nor will program representatives try to sell you a supplemental policy. If you think someone is trying to scam you or steal your Medicare number, contact Medicare.
