Freedom for a child is a space to play. It is also the space in which they relate to you as a parent or guardian, a nurturing person who loves them. A pro-social and value-centered method of teaching behavioral compliance to young children is to manage their freedom. Sometimes, restricting that freedom is appropriate.

2. It allows parents to establish themselves as the people at the top of the family hierarchy. In a house where parents are not at the top, chaos and disruption become the norm. If parents remain calm, and avoid escalating a crisis, they reinforce their own authority and teach children where the limits are.
3. It ensures their safety.
