Family conferences also give you all a chance to share feelings, talk about expectations, and learn about death and the process of dying. Family members can find great support and stress relief through family conferences. They may be offered during a period of indecision, familial discord or even deceit. Depending on where the issues lie, the family conference may be led by the nurse, social worker or chaplain as needed. Having a family conference called does not incite that there is 'anything wrong' with your family, or that your family has 'issues'. Grief, anger and confusion can cause discord within even the closest family and are a completely normal part of surviving death.
