You can damage your liver through toxins like alcohol, many cleaning fluids, contaminated food, infections, or contaminated blood. The best ways to prevent liver problems:

    • Have no more than two alcoholic drinks daily
    • Don't use IV drugs (you have a 25 percent chance of contracting viral hepatitis if the needle is infected)
    • Don't take unnecessary medication
    • Don't have unprotected sex
    • Don't use excessive aerosol cleaners in poorly ventilated areas.

Yellow discoloration of the skin and very dark urine are common tip-offs to liver damage.
