    Research shows that polyphenols protect the arteries in several ways:
    • They lower bad LDL cholesterol in the blood.
    • They reactivate vitamin E, recycling it into an antioxidant so that it
           can defend against the oxidation of LDL cholesterol.
    • They cause the arteries and veins to relax by increasing the
           production of nitric oxide.
    • They prevent platelets from sticking to the inside walls of the
           arteries.
