Plavix can interact negatively with several prescription and over-the-counter medications, chiefly blood thinners. Before going on Plavix, be sure to inform your doctor if you are taking any other medication that may thin the blood or prevent clotting. Also tell your doctor if you take aspirin or ibuprofin (Advil, Motrin) and naproxen (Aleve) regularly.

Medications that can have a negative interaction with Plavix include: NuVigil or Provigil; Prozac or Luvox; Lopid; Rifamate or Rifater; cancer medications such as Sprycel, Femara, Zevalin, or Bexxar; acid reducers like Tagamet, Nexium, Kapidex, Prevacid, Prilosec, Zegerid, Protonix, or AcipHex; antifungals such as Diflucan, Extina, Ketozole, Nizoral, Xolegal, or Vfend; HIV medications; or medications for seizures such as Felbatol or Trileptal.
