Stretching your calves is very important since a tight calf muscle can cause weakness in other muscles that help stabilize the foot and ankle, leading to plantar fasciitis. If these muscles become weak, then the foot and ankle complex will not move efficiently. This can place undue stress to the plantar fascia and lead to injury. Stretching the calf muscles will also help increase the range of motion at your ankle which will take the stress off of the plantar fascia and help it heal.
