Does peripheral neuropathy run in families?

There are two major types of peripheral neuropathy: inherited and acquired. Inherited neuropathy runs in families and is the result of genetic mutations. While there is no cure for inherited neuropathy, some cases of the disorder cause very little damage, while others are more severe. Often times, inherited neuropathy will present itself in childhood or even in infancy.
