How do other illnesses affect colon cancer?

A variety of other illnesses can increase your risk for colon cancer. Certain inherited syndromes, such as Lynch syndrome, can raise your risk. Inflammatory diseases that affect the colon, such as Crohn's disease, may also increase your risk of developing colon cancer, as can diabetes. Lastly, if you've had radiation treatment near your abdomen for another cancer, it may raise your risk for colon cancer development.
