If you have osteoporosis, then problems that make falls more likely can increase the risk of hip fractures. Weakness on walking, unsteadiness, dizziness, medications that cause lightheadedness, alcohol use, and heart problems may all contribute to further falls and hip fracture. Tripping on objects in the home or workplace greatly raises the risk of hip fracture. Telephone cords, slippery rugs, darkened rooms from low lighting, especially at night, can add to the chances of falling.
