    Elderly people with poorly controlled diabetes have more dental caries, gum disease and tooth loss. Hyperglycemia (too much blood sugar) may be the root of the problem because it causes circulation problems and weakens your mouth's ability to fight off infections. Hyperglycemia can be the cause of one or more symptoms that could harm your oral health. Some of these symptoms are dry mouth, bad breath, hunger, and fatigue. You should not have dental procedures done if you have these symptoms because this could be a sign that your blood sugar needs better control
