How do medications treat penis disorders?
-
There are several different medications that may be used to treat penis disorders. For infections or certain sexually transmitted diseases, antibiotics or antifungal medications may be taken by mouth or applied topically to the penis. Topical drugs may also be applied to the penis for several disorders that affect the foreskin, including phimosis and paraphimosis. For erection problems, medications that affect the blood flow to the penis may be used - for priapism, they decrease blood flow, and for erectile dysfunction, they relax the penis muscles to increase blood flow. These medications may be taken by mouth, or inserted or injected into the penis. Different medications may be effective for different people, so it's important to talk to your doctor to decide on a medication and dosage that works for you.
