More and more studies are showing that low testosterone in men is associated with increased death at a younger age, especially from heart disease. A study published in the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, which involved 794 men fifty to ninety-one years of age in the Rancho Bernardo area of California, showed that men with the lowest testosterone levels were more likely to die of heart disease than those with higher levels of testosterone. Treatment with bioidentical testosterone hormones can aid this deficiency and help prevent death from coronary disease.

Men with low testosterone levels appear to have a higher risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and other long-term conditions. But there's no evidence that boosting testosterone levels (via injections, gels, or lozenges of the hormone) can lessen that risk. What's more, athletes who abuse testosterone and other male hormones have a higher risk for high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke.
