Will losing weight make me more lovable?

Dr. Dean Ornish answered:Why do you want to lose weight? Do you think it will make you more lovable? Then you’re setting yourself up to be unhappy.
In 1988, Patricia Farrell authored an extraordinary series of articles for The Washington Post chronicling her struggle to lose weight. She wrote:
All of my life I thought, “If only I could lose . . .” You know - you have said it a million times yourself. X number of pounds disappear and the whole world - work, relationships (romantic or otherwise), all will change for the better. Life will be grand! And what you feel about yourself will magically transform you into a butterfly. You will look good, you will like yourself and be likable.
Well, I have run into a wall of my own construction. I know really, for the first time, that losing weight and keeping it off is a physical, health issue. Yes, I will indeed “look” better. And there will be an emotional payoff. But it will not change who I am or, more precisely, who I believe I am.

Penny Ragusano answered:In my opinion, being lovable has more to do with how we feel about ourselves then our physical weight and appearance. When we are taking good care of ourselves with exercise and nutritious foods..eating the right amounts and maintaining a healthy weight, we feel better about ourselves. When we are more loving to ourselves we are more loving to others and also more open to receive love from others. Troy Taylor answered:Well that sure is a tricky answer. I will tell you this when a person loses weight if weight has been a real problem for them it typically makes them feel a lot better about themselves and a lot more comfortable in relationships. This allows them to in many cases quit focusing on their own issues and allows them sometimes to better focus on others. When we focus on other people they may or may not love us more but they sure will benefit from a relationship with us and that in and of itself brings us a greater feeling of self worth. Tough question because it encompasses so many things but I would say that if by losing weight we can deal with an issue that is blinding us to the needs of other people than if nothing else we sure will be more valuable to those around us and isn't that what really matters.Well that sure is a tricky answer.
