A low or even low-normal testosterone level is often associated with depression in men. A study in the March 2008 issue of the Archives of General Psychiatry shows that older men with abnormally low free testosterone levels are 271 percent more likely to be depressed than those with normal testosterone levels. Bioidentical testosterone (not to be confused with the dangerous high-dose synthetics that some bodybuilders use) is often more effective than antidepressants for treating depression-even if you have technically “normal” testosterone levels.
