Is there a cure for ophthalmia neonatorum?

In many cases, ophthalmia neonatorum will clear up within days or weeks, either on its own or with mild treatment. In cases where the condition is caused by a virus or bacteria, the use of a prescribed medicated ointment or eye drops can clear the infection and avoid negative complications. If the condition is not treated properly, however, ophthalmia neonatorum can lead to permanent eye damage or even blindness.
