Is there a cure for lymphatic filariasis?

Treatment with annual doses of the anti-worm drugs albendazole and diethylcarbamazine (DEC) or albendazole and ivermectin is highly effective for killing the parasitic worms that lymphatic filariasis. Although the drugs can keep serious symptoms such as elephantiasis from occurring, they are not a complete cure. Some small number of worms will always remain in the body. Lymphatic filariasis is transmitted from human to human by mosquitoes. Any infected individual, even one who is carrying only a small number of parasites, can still pass the disease on.
