Antibiotics can effectively cure bubonic plague by eliminating the bacteria that cause the infection. If a person with bubonic plague is treated in time, the chances of this happening are quite high. Streptomycin and gentamicin are commonly-used drug to treat this disease. Before antibiotics were available in the United States, two-thirds of those who got plague did not survive.
