Is there a chance for prostate cancer to recur?
-
Dr. Dean Ornish answered:Even if a person is diagnosed with prostate cancer that appears localized to the prostate and decides to have it surgically removed (called a radical prostatectomy) or has treatment with other modalities such as radiation, there is a surprisingly high rate of recurrence of 35 percent or more.
Why? Because the tumor may have spread microscopically in ways that were undetectable at the time of surgery. Therefore, if a person has prostate cancer, whether or not he decides to undergo conventional treatment, moving to the healthiest end of the Spectrum is wise and may help reduce the risk of recurrence.
Also, a year after our research was published, scientists at the University of California, San Diego, reported that a similar low-fat plant-based diet and stress-management techniques reduced the rise in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in men with recurrent prostate cancer.
