Smokeless tobacco is known to cause cancers of the mouth, lip, tongue, and pancreas. Users also may be at risk for cancer of the voice box, esophagus, colon and bladder, because they swallow some of the toxins in the juice created by using smokeless tobacco. Smokeless tobacco can irritate your gum tissue, causing periodontal (gum) disease. Sugar is often added to enhance the flavor of smokeless tobacco, increasing the risk for tooth decay. Smokeless tobacco also typically contains sand and grit, which can wear down your teeth.

    SCAI answered:

Smokeless tobacco is commonly called chewing tobacco or snuff. Chewing tobacco is tobacco leaves that you put in your cheek to absorb nicotine. Snuff is powdered tobacco that you pinch into your cheek for the same purpose. When it comes to your heart health, tobacco is tobacco: all of it is damaging - though the particular mechanisms of damage may vary by type.

Nicotine causes blood vessels to constrict and increases blood pressure. It can also increase the heart’s rate. High blood pressure over time damages the arteries throughout your body and contributes to cardiovascular disease.

In addition to risks to your heart health, smokeless tobacco is a substantial risk factor for different types of oral cancer. It is also highly addictive. For the sake of your health, if you do not currently use smokeless tobacco, do not start. And if you already use chewing tobacco or snuff, talk with your physician about what you can do to quit.

There's no such thing as safe tobacco. Smokeless tobacco is chew, snuff, Snus, dip, and plug. It's e-cigarettes and dissolvable "melts in your mouth" tobacco strips, sticks, and lozenges. These products are sometimes seen as safe alternatives to smoking. They're not safe.

Smokeless tobacco is still tobacco, and it's still bad for your health. You're still at risk for various types of cancers and for stroke and heart attack. You're more likely to have mouth sores, bad breath, and tooth loss. And just like a smoker, you may have to work hard to quit the tobacco habit.
