Is neonatal sepsis serious?

Neonatal sepsis is a serious condition and requires immediate medical attention. It is a primary cause of infant mortality. Mortality rates are higher for early-onset sepsis and for sepsis in infants with low birth weight. Infants born prematurely are much more likely to develop neonatal sepsis than full term babies because their immune systems are weaker.
