People with brittle hair and nails are likely experiencing an excessive amount dryness in their body. Ayurvedic tradition considers an abundance of dryness to be an indication of too much air in the body, and the brittle hair and nails are likely accompanied by other issues associated with too much air: constipation, insomnia, anxious thoughts, and a difficulty sitting still.

To resolve dryness, it is not only important to live a lifestyle that keeps excessive motion (jogging, constant travel, etc.) to a minimum, but to also consume foods that moisturize the body: natural oils like olive oil and sesame oil, cooked foods over raw foods, and ghee (clarified butter). It is also helpful to massage warmed sesame oil into the skin.

Silica in the tissue salt or cell salt version will strengthen brittle hair and nails as well as helping fragile skin that does not heal easily. Some health food stores carry these special minerals, and any store can order it for you. It may be spelled Silicea, and it should say 6x after the name. (This refers to the strength and does not mean to take it six times a day.)

Directions: dissolve two tablets in your mouth two or three times a day. They dissolve easily, they taste sweet, and they are very easy to take. You may notice a difference quickly in brittle, split ends of hair and nails.
