Dr. Dean Ornish answered:Protein also helps increase satiety. Plant-based proteins achieve this as well as protein derived from animal sources. The spectrum of choices described in the chapter 4 of the book, The Spectrum, reflects the fact that, in general, plant-based proteins are more healthful than those derived from animal sources, and seafood-based proteins are generally more healthful than those derived from red meat. Body weight is inversely associated with dietary fiber and carbohydrates and is positively associated with protein intake. Meat has virtually no dietary fiber.
