Menopause is considered a type of naturally-occurring hypogonadism. Menopause is a natural process that affects everyone and occurs when women stop menstruating. It affects older women and happens when their bodies start to produce lower levels of estrogen, which qualifies menopause as a form of hypogonadism (a condition caused by low levels of sex hormones). Symptoms of menopause include loss of menstruation, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and mood swings.
