Homeopathy is a science that emerged over 200 years ago in Germany. Since the early 19th century, it has been used in America. It was created by a German physician, Samuel Hahnemann. Hahnemann was studying the psychological effects of Peruvian bark by taking it himself. Peruvian bark was being used to treat malaria. While a healthy Hahnemann was taking this substance, he developed symptoms similar to malaria. This surprising result led Hahnemann to formulate the principle of similars, or "like cures like. " While not a new science, homeopathy is still considered complementary or alternative medicine rather than conventional medicine in the United States.

Dr. Robin Miller answered:Classical Homeopathy is a system of medicine that is a relatively new science founded by a German physician, Dr Samuel Hahnemann in the early 19th century. He found that when someone became ill he could always find a particular substance that could create the same symptoms of sickness if given to a healthy individual.
He took that substance and diluted it to such a degree that there would only be an infinitely small amount of it in the remedy. He then gave it to the patient who was sick and they would heal. This is what he called the law of similars.
He created a book (called the Materia Medica) with a detailed symptom list corresponding to a large variety of remedies to guide the physician in choosing the correct one. In this system, only one remedy is necessary for a short period of time.
There are many schools of Homeopathy in the US. However, it is unregulated. To find a qualified homeopath look for the following titles: DHt, DHANP and CCH.
