Fraxel Laser is one of the many types of Fractionated Lasers available on the market today. Although the Fraxel was the first Fractional Laser created, they all work on the same principal.

As the name suggests, it removes a fraction of your skin to cause a hole in the skin the shape of a cylinder and the size of a pin prick. This heat tunnel is deep enough to cause the stimulation of new collagen fibers which results in an improvement of the acne scar.

Remember that acne scarring is caused by collagen fibers that form abnormally. The damaged skin that causes the formation of new collagen fibers is repaired by the cells in the neighboring undamaged fraction of skin. This allows for a quick recovery and less complications than the traditional treatment for acne scarring, that is, full resurfacing.

Very simply, Fraxel is a safe and effective option for acne scarring. Some scabbing, swelling and redness may develop, however will resolve within 7 to 10 days. There is the very rare chance of changes in skin color and track marks left on the skin.
