Fluoride is safe for your child in the proper amounts. Many communities supplement their municipal water supplies with fluoride, which strengthens teeth and helps prevent cavities. If your water does not contain enough fluoride, your dentist may prescribe fluoride supplements.

f too much fluoride is taken over a period of time, the mineral can stain a child’s teeth, however, your dentist can improve the appearance of the damaged teeth. If you are concerned that your child is getting too much fluoride, talk to your dentist. In addition, make sure that your young child doesn't swallow fluoride-containing toothpaste on a regular basis.
