Emotional trauma can be acute or may become a chronic issue if not treated. Chronic emotional trauma can often be described as a form of post-traumatic stress syndrome or PTSD. As with other chronic health conditions, chronic emotional trauma can lead not only to depression, but also to other health conditions. A few of these may include: chronic pain, insomnia, heart disease, and diabetes. If you are experiencing any residual effects from an emotionally traumatic event in your life, please seek counseling. The payoff for holding those pent up emotions inside is not worth your overall health in the long run.
