Is an egg allergy life-threatening?
-
Egg allergies can be life-threatening if you have a serious reaction. Similar to other food allergies, such as peanut allergies, people can have a serious reaction called anaphylaxis. Anaphylaxis can constrict the airway and prevent breathing. However, deaths from all food allergies (not just egg allergies) number only in the couple hundreds per year, so the actual likelihood of dying from an egg allergy is very small. People with serious egg allergy reactions should be sure to carry an epinephrine injection to protect themselves.
