    People with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) can also have auditory processing disorder (APD), which affects 5% of school-aged children. Children with APD may not identify the slight differences in how words sound, particularly if there is background noise. Some of the symptoms of APD are similar to those of ADHD and learning disabilities but APD is a distinct disorder.
