Some people with type 2 diabetes use very large quantities of basal insulin; 60, 80, even 120 units a day and more. There is no ceiling to insulin. You take as much as you need to get the job done. There is even a special 5x strength fast-acting called U-500 for insulin-resistant folks.

You might be given instructions to self-titrate: increasing your insulin on your own by 5 or ten units per day until you reach your target blood glucose.
