Dr. Jon Scheinman of MDLIVE answered:
A Pediatric Intensivist treats any condition that requires that the patient be hospitalized in an intensive care unit, specially designed for support of life-threatening conditions. The intensivist is not necessarily qualified to completely solve the underlying problems, but to protect the patient until those problems can be resolved. The intensivist should be working with other specialists who are especially qualified to diagnose and manage those diseases that require Intensive Care.
