    Because there are no cures for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), medical management through medications and dietary therapy is the first course of treatment. One way of managing the disease is to look at newer drugs that are more targeted with fewer side effects. The goal of treatment is to put pediatric IBD into remission for as long as possible.

    When medications are no longer effective, surgery may be necessary.
