Will I lose my vision if I have uveal melanoma?

Sometimes, uveal melanoma may cause you to lose your vision. However, this isn't always the case, especially if the cancer is detected early. Even if your initial symptoms include changes in your vision, your sight may be saved with the proper treatment. If the tumor is small, doctors may be able to remove just the growth and a little bit of the surrounding tissue, which means your vision won't likely be affected. However, if the tumor is larger, or if it has started to spread to the optic nerve, it's likely that your vision will be affected, if not lost completely. Sometimes, doctors may have to remove the eye completely if the tumor is large enough, and though artificial eyes can restore your appearance, they can't restore your vision.
